Positive Feedback

I’ll tell friends good news when it happens, but I won’t go on and on about it. I’m not the bragging type, and take compliments with a bashful smile and “thank you.”

However, on the inside I feel empowered. Positive feedback makes me want to keep going, and get better at the task. The ones who gave me the praise will probably want to take back their comments if I messed up, right?

So, positive feedback can be good and bad, depending on how you look at it.

Don’t mind me. I’m rambling.

Career Wednesday: Eating Lunch with Coworkers, Update

coworkers

I want to update on this topic I posted about a few months ago. I think the days of eating at my desk has been shaken up since my department hired two new employees, and they’re social butterflies.

Two weeks ago one of them suggested that we eat lunch together, so I said yes because it was the right thing to do. We ate outside then walked around during our hour and to be honest it was a nice change. I like her.

Then, this past Friday I ate lunch with the second new hire, and then we joined the first woman and two other coworkers for the remainder of our lunch. Again, this took place outside.

I like routine and a break is fine once in a while, but I’m sure these group lunches are going to happen more often. Not that it’s a bad thing: It’s good to interact with the people you work with, but I like my alone time. Needless to say, I did enjoy my two past lunches.

Any of you eat lunch with your coworkers? Or do you prefer to eat alone or with one other person at work? Let me know in the comments!

Random Sunday: Getting up Early

istock_alarmclock-980x523

I’m not a morning person. I move like a turtle and am constantly yawning while driving to work. After 9am I’ll be ready to go, but before then, no way. Unfortunately, my body is used to waking up early (for work I’m up at 5am). On weekends I get up at 7am (who does that?) I like my sleep but my body has other ideas.

But there are people who are early risers: who exercise at 6am or love waking up with the sun. In Hawaii people are up early because that’s the prime time to go hiking (not as hot and crowded), fishing (the best spots aren’t taken) and, if heading to the North Shore for a surfing competition in the winter, to beat the traffic and get a prime view of the action.

So the early bird does get the worm…if the bird REALLY wants it. Me, I don’t want it but there’s nothing I can do.

Are you a morning person? What’s your reason for waking up early? Let me know in the comments!

Music Monday: “I Want You Back”-The Jackson 5

I work in an open office, so everyone can visit each other, hear people’s conversations (if they’re loud enough) and we’re just in everybody’s space 40 hours a week. A guy has been playing Motown on his laptop and I can hear it from three cubicles away. It’s not deafly loud: it either has really good speakers, or I have really good hearing.

One of the songs he played this past Thursday was “I Want You Back,” and it’s one of my FAVORITE Jackson 5 songs. I love Motown in general but this one is near the top of my list of all-time favorite Motown records.

Enjoy!
