One thing that I was hesitant about with wanting to be a journalist was having to freelance, something that I didn’t want to do because I wanted to work in an office and meet people I also wanted a stable job.
But, I came to the realization that I might have to do to the one thing that I don’t want to do, but as a side job. I told my dad that I can have my real job and write to make extra money and build my skills. All of this in hopes of landing my dream gig at The Hollywood Reporter.
So I made a profile on Elance, and applied to a few freelance gigs today. In terms of writing locally, the editor of Frolic Hawaii said that she takes articles written by freelancers if she likes their topic, and for music, Cherry Pop Revue is the only option and even though I was told that it was unprofessional (the guy I talked to said that it took 4-5 months for him to get just one article published) I’m gonna apply.
In other job news, this Wednesday my dad and I are attending a retail fair. For some reason he’s pretty gung ho about it…me, not so much. If I do find something then I’ll be able to see if my proposed job plan will work.
I guess this is what they mean by working up the ranks. That, and taking on any job to survive. It’s gonna be good, I think. 🙂
